Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
