Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
